The part most age calculators get wrong
Working out an age looks like simple subtraction, and it is — right up until the day of the month has to borrow. If you were born on the 28th and today is the 3rd, the calculation borrows a month, and the number of days it borrows is the length of that specific previous month.
In the Gregorian calendar that is a lookup with four possible answers. In Bikram Sambat, a month can be 29, 30, 31 or 32 days, and the same month has different lengths in different years. Poush 2082 is not the same length as Poush 2083. A calculator that assumes 30 days will be wrong for a large share of birthdays, quietly, by a day or two.
This one borrows from the real table, which is also what makes the answer match what a Nepali office would work out by hand.

How do I calculate my age from a Nepali date of birth?

Why does a 30-day assumption give the wrong answer?
Because Bikram Sambat months are 29 to 32 days long and the length changes from year to year. When the day-of-month has to borrow from the previous month, the borrow must use that specific month's real length. Calculators that assume 30 days are off by a day or two for most birthdays.
Is this accurate enough for official forms?
The underlying table is checked against every published Nepali New Year date from 2070 to 2083 BS. For anything legally binding, confirm the Gregorian date against your citizenship certificate.
