The spelling rules in one table
The tool follows the same conventions people already use when writing Nepali in Latin letters, so most of it will feel automatic. These are the cases worth knowing.

Why a consonant sometimes loses its vowel
Every Nepali consonant carries a built-in a sound. क on its own is ka, not k. So when you type two consonants in a row, the tool assumes you want them joined and adds the halant for you.
That is how namaste becomes नमस्ते: the st in the
middle has no vowel between it, so स and त join into स्त automatically.
Common words are handled as words, not letters
Romanized Nepali has no fixed spelling, which makes some words genuinely ambiguous to a rule: maya could be मय or माया, and no rule about vowel length can decide it. For the words people actually type, this tool looks the word up instead of spelling it out — so maya, sathi and kathmandu come out right even without the doubled vowels. Anything not on the list falls through to the letter rules above.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need to install anything?
No. Type English letters in the box and Devanagari appears as you go. Nothing is installed and nothing is uploaded.
How do I type the long vowels?
Double the letter. aa gives ा, ee gives ी and oo gives ू. So kaam becomes काम.
How do I get the retroflex letters?
Capitalise. T gives ट, D gives ड and N gives ण, while lowercase t, d and n give the dental त, द and न.
How do I type the danda?
A full stop gives ।, the Nepali sentence-ending mark. Type two full stops for an ordinary period.
