How Nepali groups large numbers
English groups digits in threes: thousand, million, billion. Nepali groups them in twos once you pass the hundreds, which produces a different comma pattern and different words entirely.

This is the single most common source of error when converting Nepali financial figures into English reporting. A budget of ५० करोड is 500 million, not 50 million.

Frequently asked questions
What is a lakh and a crore?
A lakh is one hundred thousand and a crore is ten million. Nepali groups large numbers in twos above the hundreds place, so 1,000,000 is written 10,00,000 and read as दश लाख.
Why does Nepali have a separate word for every number under 100?
Because the tens are not built compositionally the way English builds twenty-one from twenty and one. उनन्चालिस, 39, is its own word. This is why learners find the numbers harder than the alphabet.
Can I use this for cheques and contracts?
That is the main use. Nepali cheques and legal documents require the amount in words as well as figures. Read the output carefully before copying it onto anything binding.
